Recycling at home
and school
Every
day everybody makes rubbish. Each week
a family throws away about 4 glass bottles
or jars, 13 cans, 3 plastic bottles and
5 kilograms of paper. Every year we are
throwing away more and more rubbish.
A typical dustbin
at home contains:
21 % of all the rubbish
we throw away is packaging from food and
other things we use in our homes, like
glass drinks bottles, metal cans and cardboard.
It is
not just homes that produce rubbish though – in
fact only 7 % of the rubbish produced in
England and Waste comes from things we
throw away at home. Over 80 % of rubbish
comes from factories, offices where people
work and shops.
Because we all make rubbish
we should all help to recycle more of it
and stop it being dumped in landfill sites.
